Teaming up With Eye Doctors
Our partner pediatric eye doctors help families understand their child's visual diagnosis and determine whether glasses, surgery, or other aids are recommended. During the exam, our Child & Family Vision Specialists provide suggestions and demonstrate activities that help children with learning accommodations.
How do the child & family Vision specialists at Partners for Pediatric Vision & Eye Doctors work together?
Child & Family Vision Specialists are available to participate alongside Pediatric Optometrists and Ophthalmologists at a variety of offices and clinics or virtually. Children with visual impairment have individual needs that typically require multiple adaptations in the home or classroom environment. Our partner eye doctors document the cause, nature, and level of visual impairment, and prognosis. Child & Family Vision Specialists demonstrate recommended learning and low vision modifications and provide psychosocial support and follow up intervention. Our Eye Doctor-Family Specialist model provides an early and accurate diagnosis and the specialized services necessary to ensure the best outcomes for children and teens with vision concerns.

What Our Partner Pediatric Doctors Say About Us
“We love working with PPV! The Vision Educators provide a value-added experience for our patients as well as valuable support services for parents. Partners for Pediatric Vision provides such amazing follow-up for our families and brings a closer connection to our clinic and the services we provide. Additionally, our collaboration helps our young doctors learn the educational perspective needed to treat children with visual impairment and understand how to work closely with early interventionists and school districts to provide necessary services. It’s a wonderful partnership and it has changed the way we work with families."
Catherine Heyman, O.D., F.A.A.O.
Founding Dean and Associate Professor, School of Optometry Highpoint University
"I’ve worked with Tori for many years with children and young adults who have impaired vision. Partners for Pediatric Vision (PPV) is a local nonprofit that provides patients and their family members with academic support, activities of daily living services, and family emotional support as the child/young adult (as well as their parents) navigates life with chronic eye disease or systemic health conditions with vision sequelae. Her team is highly skilled in working with infants, children, and young adults so they can learn compensatory strategies at an early age to reach their potential in academic & daily life. With the parent’s consent, I arrange for them to meet Tori & her team virtually during my Low Vision Exams. Oftentimes, parents are so relieved when they discover there’s an organization to help their child navigate daily life and learn what academic accommodations are available. Parents often don’t realize there’s trained therapists and personnel that work with people who have impaired vision including young people with special needs."

“Working with Partners for Pediatric Vision has been a great experience at the University Eye Center of Los Angeles. I wholeheartedly appreciate and value this type of interdisciplinary care, especially for our families who oftentimes are overwhelmed and lost as to what the next steps for caring for their child should be. PPV truly goes out of their way to provide assistance and resources for these families. I am truly honored to be able to participate in their care by providing low vision resources and more information to families.”

“Partners for Pediatric Vision provides a much-needed support to families of children with low vision. As a low vision optometrist, I witness firsthand how frustrating it can be for families to get the services they need for their children. Families are often confused and overwhelmed by information given to them by medical professionals, therapists, and teachers. Partners for Pediatric Vision has been instrumental in bridging the gap between families and the services they need. Whether it is contacting a child’s in-home or school teacher to explain their diagnosis, helping to find funding or equipment, or simply providing a shoulder to cry on, Partners for Pediatric Vision plays a crucial role before, during, and after my examinations.”

"I've worked with Partners for Pediatric Vision as an optometry student, as a pediatric resident, and currently as the Manager of the Disability and Accessibility Clinic at Ketchum Health and I truly hope to continue working with them for many years to come. I cannot begin to imagine how confusing and difficult it must be for parents to navigate the world of accommodations and services. I always know my patients are in wonderful hands with the thorough follow-up care that the Vision Educators provide. They are such an incredible hands-on organization, and the services they provide to these families are invaluable. I love that they plan support groups and community events to connect parents of children with disabilities and visual impairments. Our partnership with Partners for Pediatric Vision has expanded the level of care that we are able to provide to these families and allows us to treat the child as a whole - not just their eyes."
