Dr. Bill Takeshita, O.D. Joins Partners for Pediatric Vision
Dr. Bill Takeshita always wanted to be an eye doctor. The course of his young life changed when he was fitted for glasses after years of struggle with school work and sports. Dr. Bill likes to joke that he “was no longer chosen last for baseball, just second last.” Inspired by his own childhood experiences, “Dr. Bill” as he is affectionately known, became a pioneer in the field of Developmental Optometry for children. Dr. Bill has a unique ability to explain vision loss in the context of child development. He listens to parents and spends time educating families about what can be done to encourage visual skills or accommodate for visual impairment. Families who meet Dr. Bill leave their child’s exam with hope no matter the prognosis.
Dr. Bill’s passion and commitment have never faltered even as he experienced his own loss of vision and subsequent blindness in 2003. He is a sought after public speaker and low vision consultant and professor. We believe his impact is greatest in the exam room and are thrilled to have him join the staff at Partners for Pediatric Vision.
Dr. Bill works alongside Dr. Angela Shihady, O.D., and Judith Harris, Family Specialist, on the second Wednesday of the month at Children’s Retina Institute in Los Angeles. For more information or to schedule an exam, please call (323) 257-3997.
